The Strategy Timeline provides a unified chronological view of all SEO events — actions taken, ranking changes observed, and their causal relationships.
Event Types
The timeline shows several event types, colour-coded for quick identification:
- Actions (blue) — SEO changes you made (content updates, technical fixes, link building)
- Rankings (green/red) — Significant ranking movements (up or down)
- Algorithm Updates (orange) — Known Google algorithm updates that may explain ranking shifts
- Competitor Actions (purple) — Detected competitor content changes or technical updates
- Milestones (gold) — Major achievements (first page ranking, traffic record, etc.)
Causal Attribution
The timeline attempts to link actions to outcomes:
- An action is logged (e.g., "Updated product page content")
- The system monitors ranking changes for related keywords
- If a positive change occurs within the expected timeframe, it's attributed to the action
- Attribution confidence is shown as a percentage
Using the Timeline
- Zoom in/out to view different time ranges (day, week, month, quarter)
- Filter by event type to focus on specific activity
- Click any event to see full details and related events
- Export the timeline for client reporting
Tips
- The timeline is most valuable over 3–6 month periods where patterns emerge.
- Use it in client meetings to demonstrate the ROI of SEO activities.
- Look for patterns between competitor actions and your ranking changes.
