Content Gap Analysis identifies valuable search queries and topics where your competitors have visibility but you don't — revealing opportunities for new content.
How It Works
The gap analysis runs daily:
- Collects all keywords where your competitors rank in the top 20
- Filters out keywords you already track and rank for
- Evaluates each gap by search volume, competition level, and relevance
- Scores opportunities by expected impact and effort
- Surfaces the top opportunities as strategy recommendations
Gap Types
Keyword Gaps
Keywords your competitors rank for that you don't target at all. These represent untapped search demand.
Entity Gaps
Entities (topics, concepts, people, places) that appear prominently in competitor content but are missing from yours. Filling entity gaps strengthens your topical authority.
SERP Feature Gaps
Rich results (featured snippets, People Also Ask, image packs) that competitors capture but you don't. These often require specific content formatting.
Prioritisation
Gaps are ranked by a composite score:
- Search volume — Higher volume = more potential traffic
- Keyword difficulty — Lower competition = easier to rank
- Business relevance — Alignment with your products/services
- Competitor density — How many competitors cover this topic
Tips
- Focus on gaps with high search volume and low difficulty first.
- Entity gaps are often quicker to address than keyword gaps — you may only need to enrich existing content.
- Review gap analysis monthly to track how your coverage is expanding.
